MASLD / Fatty Liver Management

Metabolic care for fatty liver disease, aimed at reducing liver fat and improving liver tests, with an assessment of liver-scarring risk.

About MASLD. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the current name for what was called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). It is closely linked to excess weight, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol.

Who this programme is for

  • Adults told they have fatty liver on ultrasound or another scan
  • People with raised liver enzymes and metabolic risk factors
  • People with type 2 diabetes, obesity or metabolic syndrome, who are at higher risk of fatty liver

What the programme includes

  • Endocrinologist consultations — a baseline assessment and scheduled reviews
  • Baseline and follow-up laboratory tests as advised by your doctor (charged separately)
  • A personalised nutrition plan that fits Indian food habits, including vegetarian options
  • An activity plan that includes strength (resistance) training
  • Dietitian and health-coach follow-up between doctor visits
  • Medication review by your endocrinologist at every stage
  • Assessment of liver-scarring (fibrosis) risk using blood-test scores and, where advised, liver-stiffness measurement (charged separately)
  • Alcohol advice and a review of medicines and supplements that may affect the liver
  • Treatment of linked conditions — diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Referral to a hepatologist or gastroenterologist if there are signs of significant liver scarring

How progress is measured

  • Liver tests (ALT, AST, GGT) and fibrosis-risk scores
  • Liver fat and stiffness on follow-up scans, where advised
  • Weight, waist, glucose, blood pressure and lipids

What to expect

Weight loss is the cornerstone of treatment, and improvement in liver fat and liver tests is commonly seen with sustained weight loss. The degree of improvement varies between individuals. People with advanced scarring need specialist liver follow-up in addition to this programme.

Your medicines

Safe adjustment of insulin and other diabetes or blood-pressure medicines is part of the programme and is done only by your doctor. Please do not stop or change any medicine on your own — sudden changes can cause dangerously high or low blood sugar.

Who this programme is not suitable for

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Recent severe low blood sugars (hypoglycaemia) or very high blood sugars
  • Unstable heart disease
  • Advanced kidney or liver disease
  • An active eating disorder
  • Significant frailty

If any of these apply to you, you will still receive specialist care — through a different, individually planned pathway rather than this structured programme.

Information on this page is general and does not replace a consultation. Results vary between individuals.
